Valley Forge National Historic Park
Valley Forge was the site of the 1777-78 winter encampment of the Continental Army. Valley Forge National Historic Park commemorates the sacrifices and perseverance of the Revolutionary War generation and honors the ability of citizens to pull together and overcome adversity during extraordinary times. The Park offers 90 minute guided tours on the old fashioned open air Trolley or you can take the Revolutionary Shuttle, which offers complimentary transportation and has 9 stops within the park. With over 3500 acres, Valley Forge National Park is one of the few contiguous protected areas in Pennsylvania and includes a river, many streams and wetlands, forest and meadows full of tall grass. There are over 315 species of animals in the Park, with 225 of them birds. Volunteers are welcome for activities such as screening artifacts from the soil excavated from the Washington Headquarters site.
