When John James Audubon first moved to America in 1803, he moved to Mill Grove near Valley Forge. This was where he developed his unique painting style. In 1896, the Pennsylvania Audubon Society was created as the second state Audubon Society in the country and today, Pennsylvania has 22 Audubon chapters and more than 24,000 members. It is their mission to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds and their habitats. For more than 100 years, Audubon has been connecting people with nature through the annual “Christmas Bird Count”, the great backyard bird count and important bird area surveys, all of which assists scientists with critical bird population trend data and diversity records.
